Splintered Review (spoilers)

Its Chloe and today’s going to be a book review on Splintered by A.G Howard.

I bought splintered a while back ago when I went to Barnes and Noble in Redding.

This one captured my attention the moment my eyes fell on the cover.

It it is gorgeous! I love the colors, the model is gorg, but.. Sadly I don’t feel the same way about the book.

This is a re-telling of Alice in Wonderland, if you already didn’t get that from the little reference ” down the rabbit

I loved it at the start. We aren’t exactly introduced to the character at first but we are introduced to her little obsession with bugs. You know the whole killing and arranging them into her little ” morbid mosaics”. I thought that was actually pretty interesting and different from what I’ve read before.

We then realize she has a crazy mother locked up. She is in love with her best friend who seems like he doesn’t exactly return the feelings. But no it’s one of those books.  You know the ones where she tries to hide her feelings, and every little thing he does makes her hypervinalate. Then she’s sad that he doesn’t feel the same way about her because he’s dating someone else who supposedly is wayyy hotter than her. So she gets mad and it goes on and on.

God it’s so cliche, because guess what they do fall in love, later!

Major spolier! * wink, wink*

This kind of toned down my excitement for the book.

There was a lot of mistakes throughout the book, that surprised me that it even got past the editor, proofreader and all.

The whole Alice in Wonderland thing going on here, reminded me a lot of Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. Which is my favorite movie btw! This was the main, main reason I picked up this book. I love these dark retellings, but this one, made me extremely disappointed.

There is the talking flowers, drinks and cake making you smaller/bigger, the white rabbit, oh and yeah falling down the rabbit hole. How could I forget that one.

My brain is still reeling from all the mistakes in this book. Sigh.

The only interesting character throughout the book was the other love interest for Alyssa. Morpheus. He’s not even an main character! He was the only character actually interesting in this book.

The book was dragged on and way to long. I could hardly finish the last of it. A predicted ending. Characters are annoying. The romance in this makes me gag.

No. I’m sorry but not even Morpheus will make me pick up the second book.

Currently watching.

It’s Chloe here today with an ” What shows im currently watching”.

Now most of these shows, I’m a total fangirl for, others not so much. So continue reading to see what I’m watching! 😊

  1. The Shannara Chronicles- This was an highly anticipated tv show for my friends because they loved the books. I’ve not read any of the books, but when I did I ended up getting the second book in the series. Sigh.  Here’s a brief summary about the series.                                                                                                     ✖️Based on the best-selling fantasy book series by Terry Brooks, “The Shannara Chronicles” follows heroes in the Four Lands as they embark on a quest to stop an evil Demon army from destroying the universe. Thousands of years after the fall of humankind, the world’s fate rests on the shoulders of an unlikely trio: Elvin Princess Amberle, who dreams of a life outside of the palace walls; beautiful, wild and wily Human Rover Eretria, and half-elf Wil, who knows nothing of the great destiny that runs through his veins.✖️ Thoughts on the show? Well, it’s good so far and I love Will. Now the whole love triangle thing is quite pathetic. You know what I mean if you watch it. Hint:Will sleeping with —. – making the other girl extremely jealous.  Yeah noo. Also the acting is a little cheesy but so far so good.

2. Shadowhunters- Very cheesy but it’s one of those shows that just intrigues you to continue watching. I definitely don’t like the actor for the role of Clary but she’s improvin slightly over the course of episodes. She’s so pretty though! Just not feeling her acting for the show. 😑😭 Love, love , love the Malec scenes and love Magnus Bane!!!  imageThey’re adorable! Can’t wait for the episode titled ” Malec”. Here’s a brief summary of the show- ✖️On her birthday, Clary Fray discovers a surprise concerning her life. The teenager is not who she thinks she is — she comes from a long line of human-angel hybrids, called Shadowhunters, who hunt demons. After her mother is kidnapped, Clary is thrust into the world of demon-hunting. Clary relies on mysterious Jace and fellow hunters Isabelle and Alec to help her navigate the dark world. While living in this new world among creatures like vampires and werewolves, Clary’s best friend Simon helps her uncover answers that could help her find her mother✖️

3.Bates Motel- OH MY GODD!! THIS IS LIFEEEEEE LOVE LOVE LOVE. ASDFGHJKL. Ok sorry, my fangirl came out to say hi. I love the suspension, the evil Norman Bates, the creepy factor, acting is perfection, I love when Norman fights with his mom because it shows how wonderful Freddie Highmore’s acting is. I love the way Norman smirks when he turns evil.

Summary-✖️After the death of her husband, Norma Bates buys a motel in the picturesque coastal town of White Pine Bay, giving herself and teenage son Norman a chance to begin anew. Shy Norman is reluctant at first, but with the help of his mother — with whom he shares an intensely close relationship — the boy begins to open up to others and make new friends. Some locals, however, aren’t as friendly and welcoming to the Bates, who discover that because White Pine Bay isn’t as peaceful as it appears, they are forced to do whatever it takes to survive. The drama series, from executive producers Carlton Cuse (“Lost”) and Kerry Ehrin (“Friday Night Lights”) and inspired by the seminal 1960 horror film “Psycho,” explores the formative years of Norman Bates and how his complicated bond with his mother forged a serial killer.✖️ Definitely a show I’ll love and watch over and over again. It’s on Netflix. Watch it!! Season 3 just came out! Yay.

  1. Shows I won’t talk about much, but I’m watching once in awhile. If I have time. The flash, arrow,PLL,daredevil, vampire diaries.
  2. Last Teen Wolf of course! New episode tonight! Tune in at 9/8c. That’s it! Sorry for it being so long.                                                             Until next time, ChloeBooks💫

Maze Runner Review

It’s Chloe here today with a book review.

Maze Runner by James Dashner was a boring, bland ride.

Yes, this is going to be a very opinionated review on this book, so continue reading of you want to see what I thought about it.

A very ranted review that might make Maze Runner lovers mad.

When first starting this I have to admit, it wasn’t all that bad. Now I did make the mistake of watching the movie before the book. So when reading this I had an idea of what was going to happen. Now I loved the movie , mainly due to the reason that my favorite actor Dylan o’ brien plays the main protagonist Thomas. This may cloud my judgment on the book but the movie is definitely, way freaking better.

It took me nearly two months to finish this book- and Im a very fast reader if I love the book. So the two months thing is saying a lot.

Why I didn’t like the book? Well number 1: The writing? Ha pretty much like a ten year old wrote it. Very juvenile. This is supposed to be an YA but the people reading it aren’t twelve. Either a better editor or learn to write for the YA crowd. Please.

2: The I fell in love at first sight thing- the insta love-                          Thomas and Teresa? I felt like the whole reason she was put into the book was so Thomas can have an love interest. The whole Telepathic thing was pretty cool, but.. I really don’t think she should have been in the book or as an potential lover. Hey I’m not saying I don’t love romance while reading. Just could’ve done without it in this. I don’t need romance in every book I read, if the book is good, well written, and fast paced then I can definitely do without romance. Just give me a good book.

3: The slang, characters, setting. Everything was a disaster. Thomas was an whiny, curious, annoying bloke. Couldn’t stand him. He was bipolar. One minute he got annoyed with Chuck, then he loved Chuck and needed an friend. He was happy. His emotions were bouncing all over the place.

The slang was so stupid it was hilarious.

You’re the shuckiest shuck-faced shuck there ever was!

Wait.. What?

4:Bland, boring, uneventful read.

I loved the movie and think the writing is better! If not for the movie and the good actor playing Thomas then I wouldn’t even bother picking up the book or even watching the movie. The only reason I did was I wanted to see what all the hype was about and the difference between the movie and book.

Im sorry. I’m in a ranting mood.

Harry Potter Play

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child play

Hello there munchkins!

Its chloe here today with some late exciting news that i just heard about today (after some intense 30 min. researching).

There is a Harry Potter Play coming this summer in London! Hence the title, Harry Potter and the cursed child.

I thought I write about this since I’m getting my car at the end of this month. Which I’m supperrrr excited about btw!

My dad was thinking about taking a trip in the new car sometime in mid March. We were thinking Portland but this play is huge to me, since I’m a big time Harry Potter fan. 😊

Now London is big because I have never traveled to far away from my hometown. But like I said this is huge and I would love to go!

Hopefully there is still some tickets left to buy, which there probably is.

Urgg Im sooo excited!!!

Are any of you Harry Potter fans attentding this play??

If so, comment down below. I would love to know.

Now I am off to beg my dad to get tickets. Wish me luck. 😊😘

Books I dislike

Hello there munchkins!

Its Chloe here today with Books I truly dislike.

Twilight-( New moon and blah)- This one is definitely number one I truly dislike. Like everyone says, the romance is horrible. There was sooo many grammatical errors, there is two ways people take a stance on this- Loved or Hated. Got to agree with the hate. I couldn’t even finish the first book without having to constantly roll my eyes at every line Bella said.

He was both dazzling and dazzled.

Evermore- Another series that took me months to finish. The writing, the characters, romance, profanity-all of it is ridiculous. I read this book when I was younger and fell in love with the first book but then the second book was horrible and I couldn’t even finish it. I even forced my mom to read it and she said she couldn’t help but want to take a red pen to fix the grammar.

Fallen- Now this one wasn’t to bad, but also not the best. I felt like the protagonist was bland and only cared about what her ” Boyfriend” thought about her. Every sentence was ” Does Daniel love me?” or ” why is Daniel ignoring me?”.Nice setting though.

Now I know this probably sounds opinionated… but don’t get me wrong I love YA romance books. Just not these ones.

Until next time,

Silver Linings Playbook review

“I’m practicing being kind over being right”

“Life is not a PG feel-good movie. Real life often ends badly. Literature tries to document this reality, while showing us it is still possible for us to endure nobly.”
― Matthew Quick, The Silver Linings Playbook

Review: some spoilers I guess.

It’s Chloe here and today I have a book review for yall.

This book by Matthew Quick reminded me a lot of Perks of being a Wallflower- the adult version.

I don’t know why this book would be called “fun” or “light-hearted”.It was depressing and pretty dark at times.

I’m not saying it’s not enjoyable, I did enjoy it but it is a book I wouldn’t read again. If you get what I’m trying to say here.

Pat is a 34 year old man who is a little coo coo for cocoa puffs.

He thinks that his ex-wife will love him again if he loses weight. Sigh.

You have to be kidding me.

He does remind me a lot of Charlie, but I loved Charlie .. Pat, well maybe not so much.

There both crazy–. I mean mental issues. Both cry a lot in public.

Charlie writes letters and Pat writes journal entry’s and letters.

I found them both similar in a way. I’d pick The Perks of being a Wallflower over this any day.

I did love his character at times. He loves his family. He’s a little worse for wear at times but in general a good person.

You need to make time for your family no matter what happens in your life

He’s not perfect and I believe he finally comes to that conclusion at the end.

His silver lining.

I don’t know if I liked the ending. It.. I don’t know .

I’m in a very weird mood typing this review.

Also there’s a weird man just standing by the garbage can, staring into space with a bottle of vodka in his hand. I wonder what he’s thinking..
His dog keeps barking. Also it’s sitting in one of those bike thingies you attach for your kids to sit in.

Omg what is happening. Ugh. I live in such a weird neighborhood.

The book was good but definitely not the best. ( MY OPINION)

I don’t like writing these kind of reviews, but you gotta be honest.
